Cycling In East Gwillimbury

Hi there, Queensville here with another great post. Summer is great for lots of reasons, but one of the biggest ones is being able to get out, and be active. What better way to enjoy the weather and stay fit than cycling? I thought this week I’d share some tips for keeping your bike in tip-top shape all season – and tell you about my favourite local trail!

Let’s start with some basic maintenance. This may depend on your fitness level, but the last thing you’ll want is to have an issue with your bike in the middle of a long ride – especially if you’re deep in a trail.  One of the most obvious things is to clean your bike, to help keep it looking (and riding) it’s best. It’s also a good idea to start the summer off by inspecting your wheels, brakes and drivetrain (the pedals, chain, chain ring, derailleur), and rear-wheel cassette. Making sure your bike is usable, has tires free of punctures/issues, and has working breaks can help ensure that you have a smooth ride – and avoid any serious injuries, or costly repairs throughout the summer.

When it comes to taking an afternoon ride, I’m quite partial to The Brown Hill Tract, right here in the Town of East Gwillimbury. It offers more than 15 km of trails – and some of the best mountain biking terrain in the GTA. No matter where you explore here in the York Region, there are plenty of trails to explore and make your own.  In fact, you can create your own custom cycling route with the York Region Interactive Cycling Map; give it a shot.

So get out there, and do some serious cycling this summer -- don’t forget your helmet and a few friends.  I’ll continue to share things I love with you next week.

Talk soon,
