New Health and Active Living Plaza

The designs for a new Health and Active Living Plaza within our beautiful Queensville development off Leslie Street in East Gwillimbury are currently underway, and we couldn't be more thrilled. According to the NRU, this new municipal space will provide more than just a multi-use community facility for the town - it will create a focal point that will bring residents together as a community and provide social, recreational and educational opportunities.

New design concepts for this community hub were presented to the town council in mid-December, showcasing a facility of almost 7,500 square metres, and including plans for an aquatics centre, a gymnasium with a track for running and a potential fitness centre, a library that includes a sound studio and makerspace for the public, a teaching kitchen, community programming spaces, an indoor boardwalk with public art on display and a nature-themed play area for younger children, and park space outdoors surrounding the building.

Queensville, the residential development and combined undertaking of Lakeview Homes, Aspen Ridge Homes, and CountryWide Homes, is already poised to bring not only 30,000 new residents to the New Gwillimbury area, but also new schools, parks, commercial and retail space, and a new town centre. Alongside the Health and Active Living Plaza, our masterplanned community is set to bring new life to this small community, and we couldn't be prouder.

The Health and Active Living Plaza is planned to open when the town of East Gwillimbury, currently with a population of just under 35,000, reaches 40,000 and subsequently has a tax base that can financially support the centre. This is projected to occur as soon as 2024. That doesn't leave a lot of time for you and your family to pick out the perfect house, let us build it for you, and turn it into a home, but we're up to the challenge if you are! By the time you've built yourself a beautiful life in New Gwillimbury, the Health and Active Living Plaza won't be far away.

Right now, the council is focusing on trying to bring residents into the design process as much as possible. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought particular focus to advanced air purification and filtration systems for the centre. There is already a strong focus on sustainability, and connecting the indoor and outdoor parts of the facility. It is an ambitious project, but the impact on the community will be just as impressive as the new plaza will surely turn out to be. We can't wait to see it come to life.
